A crowdgiving to restore the façade
A masterpiece of art nouveau, the façade of the Maison Hannon is a collective asset, that of the people of Brussels, that of passers-by, that of tourists... We want to restore the house to its original splendour for its opening next spring, but above all to give back to everyone one of the most iconic façades in Brussels.
In 1902, the couple explicitly asked their architect friend Jules Brunfaut to draw inspiration from other houses by Victor Horta (personal house on Rue Américaine; Hotel Tassel; Hotel Wessinger), Ernest Blérot (Étangs d'Ixelles, now destroyed) and the Hotel Otlet (Octave Van Rysselberghe and Henry Van de Velde, Rue de Florence). The personal style of Jules Brunfaut, an architect of the beaux-arts and historical styles, was mixed in with a new style tinged with French accents. With this trial run, the architect created his masterpiece and his only art nouveau project, playing on the voids and plains and making the most of the façade of the Avenue de la Jonction, which runs the full length of the building in a lively manner.
Such a project is impossible without your support! Therefore, Maison Hannon has launched its first crowdgiving campaign on the Prométhéaforculture platform, initiated by Prométhéa, an association dedicated to the development of corporate sponsorship in the fields of Arts and Heritage. Each donation will be used to employ the best craftsmen in the best conditions. Excellence and high standards, as a tribute to the quality of the work carried out by the craftsmen in 1902.
In concrete terms, the sum collected will be used to hire an architect to analyze the state of conservation of the façade and to evaluate the interventions required by the specialized teams: to delicately dust the whole, to repair the watertightness of the joints, to check the solidity of the elements, to restore the cornice and the metal elements in their original color... Apply the greatest care to the whole.
The windows and the winter garden are now finished. It is therefore a question of helping us to complete the final stretch to offer everyone a coherent and sublime vision of this exceptional building! It is in your hands.
