July & August: Art Nouveau tours in Saint-Gilles
The Maison Hannon invites visitors to explore the urban fabric from which it emerged. During several decades in the mid-19th century, the rural exodus and population boom transformed Saint-Gilles. Art Nouveau was explored by architects like Horta, Hankar, Blérot, and Strauven, while academic styles were represented by Dumont and Brunfaut. The 1904 inauguration of the Town Hall was a pivotal event, structuring the public space where it now stands out. The façades, adorned with stained glass, sgraffito, and wrought iron, infused the public space with art. By 1910, Saint-Gilles had evolved into a modern city.
The Sundays 14/07, 28/07, 11/08 and 25/08, the Maison Hannon organises guided tours in the area.
