Echoes of dreams

Symbolism in Brussels

Starting August 29, 2025, the Maison Hannon invites the public to a unique, sensitive, and intellectual exploration of the enchanting world of Belgian Symbolism with the exhibition “Echoes of dreams”.

Set in the elegant surroundings of the Brussels Art Nouveau house Maison Hannon, the exhibition invites visitors to explore the richness and complexity of Symbolist art at the turn of the 20th century. Guided by the vision of the house’s original patrons—the cultural figures that engaged with this artistic avant-garde since its very beginning—the exhibition offers a broader reflection on Belgian Symbolism, exploring its multiple facets: aesthetic, philosophical, social, and spiritual

Echoes of Dreams sheds light on a pivotal moment in art history, when creative expression became a vehicle for introspection and a pursuit of harmony between art and life.

In addition, the contributions of leading figures of Belgian and French symbolism are highlighted. Names such as Victor Rousseau, Émile Gallé, Fernand Khnopff, Jean Delville, Jeanne de Tallenay, Charles van der Stappen, George Minne and Jef Lambeaux show how a generation of artists wrestled with tensions, hopes and dreams that are still relevant today.
