“The Crown of Aphrodite”, like a Belle Époque salon

04.02.26 — 19:20

Ensemble vocal Aziliz

On February 4 at Saint-Gilles Town Hall, the Aziliz Vocal Ensemble — a women’s choir conducted by Judith Sepulchre — will present its concert “The Crown of Aphrodite”, accompanied by pianist Charlène Bertholet. The program offers a journey to the late 19th century, at the crossroads of Romanticism and Impressionism, featuring works by Gabriel Fauré, Claude Debussy, Ernest Chausson, Vincent d’Indy, and César Franck.

These pieces were once performed at soirées organized by Les XX, an avant-garde artists’ circle of the fin de siècle. The concert invites us to relive one of these musical evenings from the 1890s, modernized with contemporary a cappella works by Aurélien Hallopeau inspired by this era of renewal.

In resonance with the Symbolism exhibition at Maison Hannon, “The Crown of Aphrodite” creates a dialogue between music and architecture through a spring-like, organic repertoire echoing the fluid lines and light effects of Art Nouveau. An immersive experience where past and present meet!
