Émile Gallé, liqueur decanter
Édouard Hannon and Marie Debard commissioned Émile Gallé to design the furnishings for their home, including their crystal tableware. This liqueur decanter is identical to the one owned by the couple and used in the grand drawing room. It is distinguished by its chrysanthemum motifs in marquetry of cut and colored crystal, as well as by its golden engravings.
The Maison Hannon preserves a copy of the purchase invoice, dated 1905. The set included 18 complete place settings, featuring water glasses, champagne coupes, Bordeaux glasses, and liqueur glasses. The order was received by Mr. Chardin in Dombasle, where Marie Debard’s family lived.
The carafe is on display all summer in the rooms dedicated to the history of the house. Original examples of this service set are exhibited at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, following a donation from the Chardin descendants in 1968.
